What design and history means to me?

Hey,

Another homework but for different subject. For our social context of design class we had to write a blogpost about what means design and history to us. Even though I love them both so much I find it hard to explain why, especially in english.

Design

I think we all have heard of the basic definition of design that you can find from every single dictionary. For me design means everything that I know. Most of my closest friends know the story how my grandmother tragged me around the museums and bought me way too many drawing and art books. She wanted to make something out of me, so I would have a direction in the future. I was probably four or five years old when she started to educate me about art and history. A piece of paper was a place where I could express myself which I enjoyed a lot. Although my drawings weren't always beautiful and perfect, my grandma still believed in me and encouraged me to practice more. So that's what I did all these 19 years of my life.

Design for me is home, memories and definination of myself. This created me somehow and now I am here to share a piece of me. Design is pain, happiness and all the other emotions. Through design you can be who ever you want to be, you can express your sadness in a way that no one understands what you actually feel. For example If I would ask 20 random people to describe what they see on a (random) picture, I think some peoples thoughts on this picture would be identical and some answers would be completely different from the others. And this is what makes design so great because you can be all the things in one.

History

I could say that history is something that you've done in the past which is true but is it actually ? I don't know the answer to that but I believe that every person has their own theory like I do. Although I am about to find out what my theory is ( laughing all by herself) as I continue writing this definition. History is everywhere and it happens every second, every minute, every hour and every single day. This defines who where are for other people in the future. At the same time we learn where we are from and how everything else happened in the past.

My grandmother teached me a lot about history. As a 19-year old girl I can say that I love history and every single thing that comes with me. History allows us say that yes it was okay that we cried at that moment because it's passed us and now we can only make things better. History has created humankind and keeps doing that.
